2. The Holy Qur'an has named the Khutbah as Dhikr in the following verse: "O! Believers, when there is a call for Salah on Friday, rush for the Dhikr of Allah and leave trade". (al-Jumu'ah: 9) Here the word 'Dhikr' stands for the Khutbah, because after hearing the Adhan, the Salah (prayer) does not start immediately. The following conditions are necessary for Jummah to be correct: 1. A large town. That it be in a city or the prayer grounds of a city. It is not allowed in villages. Sayyidna Ali Radiyallahu Anhu has said:"the Jummah and eid prayers cannot be held except in large towns" (Musannaf Abdur Razzak) 2. Time of Zuhr Prayer. 3. The Shia and the Friday Prayer. The important matter which the Sunni raise and criticize the Shia for on all occasions, is the matter of neglecting and not offering the Friday Prayer. Some of them are so excessive in their view that they consider the Shia as disbelievers for not offering the Friday Prayer, relying on a Prophet's tradition Reasoning that the purpose of the khutbah is more important than its language and form, they came to the conclusion that Arabic per se is not a requirement for the validity of the khutbah. We did the same thing…made the Eid prayer but not the Jumuah prayer. But I think the Imam at the masjid in my area still gave a khutbah for those who wanted to pray. Since the imam would still perform the Jum'aa If someone were to say, "We only do that in order to be on the safe side, lest our Jumu`ah prayer was not valid," our answer is that he should be told that the basic principle is that the Jumu`ah prayer is valid and is sound and that it is not obligatory to pray Zuhr, indeed it is not permissible to do so at the time of Jumu`ah for those v0cx.
